Discoverers Baseball’s District Semifinal Delayed

The start of today’s A-2 district baseball semifinal between Columbus High and Millard West on KLIR 101 has been delayed by a wet field.

First pitch for the game between the Discoverers and Wildcats in Millard, which had been scheduled for 10 a.m., is now expected at approximately 11 a.m.

Columbus won the district opener Friday at Omaha Burke, breaking a scoreless tie with a two-out rally in the top of the seventh for a 5-0 victory.  Quenton Gustafson’s second single of the contest plated the Discoverers first run.  The rally was capped when Sawyer Kimberling’s second double of the game drove in three runs.

Making just his third start since returning from an ankle injury suffered in the basketball season, Preston Hastreiter had a no-hitter through four innings and tossed a complete game shutout.

CHS improved to 8-17 on the season, while top-seeded Millard West is 28-4.
