CWS: Wolfpack in Control, Cardinal Still Alive
Terrell Tatum’s fifth inning home run spoiled a dominant performance by Vanderbilt starter Jack Leiter last night, as North Carolina State took control of its College World Series bracket with a 1-0 win.
Leiter and Wolfpack starter Sam Highfill staged a pitchers’ duel. In his eight innings, Leiter racked up 15 strikeouts and leads the nation with 171 K’s. Highfill limited the Commodores to two hits through 7 ⅓ innings.
In Monday’s elimination game, Stanford hammered Arizona 14-5. Brock Jones homered and had five RBI to lead the Cardinal. On tap at TD Ameritrade Park today: Tennessee meets Texas in an elimination contest at 1 p.m. and Virginia faces Mississippi State in the winners bracket at 6 p.m.
