CWS Lately Stands For Comeback World Series

This year’s CWS apparently stands for Comeback World Series.  A night after Mississippi State was no-hit for seven innings before putting up a 6-spot in the eighth, Vanderbilt shocked Stanford in an elimination game.

The reigning national champion Commodores were down to their last strike before rallying for two runs and a 6-5 walk-off victory.  Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year Brendan Beck had retired eight straight Vandy batters since coming on in the seventh inning before he issued a walk with two away in the ninth.  He gave up an infield single, followed by a game-tying RBI single before issuing a wild pitch that allowed the winning run to score from third.

Vanderbilt plays NC State in the Bracket 1 final needing to beat the Wolfpack Friday and Saturday to reach the best-of-three championship series.  On tap tonight in Omaha: Texas takes on Virginia at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
