Creighton baseball’s Alan Roden was selected in the third round of the Major League Baseball draft today. The Toronto Blue Jays took Roden, a first baseman-outfielder, with the 98th overall pick.
Roden, the Co-Big East Player of the Year last spring, closed the season on a 33-game reached base streak. He led Creighton with a .387 average, 75 hits and 25 doubles. Roden was the second-most difficult NCAA batter to strike out last season, going down on strikes just eight times in 194 trips to the plate.
The last time a CU player was drafted as high as the third round was in 1999, when the Cubs used their third-round pick on Ryan Gripp.
