MONROE- Two people died after a collision near Monroe Friday.

At 9:21 a.m., the Platte County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident located at the intersections of 355th Ave. and 280th St. The investigation revealed that at the time of the collision, a SUV driven by 43 year old Lisa Groth, of Monroe, had been traveling southbound on 355th Ave., and a semi pulling a grain trailer driven by 34 year old Brett Lesac, of Omaha, had been traveling westbound on 280th St.

The collision occurred in the middle of the unmarked intersection and both vehicles came to rest west of the intersection, with the semi jackknifed in the south ditch and the SUV coming to rest in the north ditch. Both Groth and her juvenile passenger died during the collision. Lesac was checked out by rescue personal on scene and released with no apparent injuries.

Visitation for both will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion on Wednesday. The Funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Boone County Fairgrounds Event Center in Albion.

Groth is the sister of KZ-100 Operations Manager David Gustafson.
