Cornerstone Wins in Extras, Junior Blues Bow to G.I.

Columbus’ American Legion baseball teams split a pair of home games against Grand Island last night. 

The Cornerstone Insurance Group Columbus Seniors rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and an 8-7 victory.  Home Federal had scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead, but Cornerstone tallied once in the bottom of the frame to send the contest into extra innings. 

Kael Forney had three hits and six RBI for Columbus, while Tadan Bell worked five innings and compiled 11 strikeouts.  The win upped the Seniors’ record to 13-6. 

In the early game, the One United Federal Credit Union Junior Blues bowed to G.I. 27-2, falling to 5-16 on the season. 

Today, the Columbus Seniors will visit North Platte for a doubleheader, while the Junior Blues will host North Platte in a twinbill.  First pitch of the opening game at Pawnee Park Field is set for 3 p.m.
