Cornerstone Swept, Junior Blues Split vs. Kearney

The Cornerstone Insurance Group Columbus Seniors were swept in a doubleheader at Kearney last night, while the Columbus United Federal Credit Union Junior Blues split a home twinbill against Kearney.

Cornerstone dropped the opener 3-1, although Columbus starter Connor Dush kept his team in the game by pitching all six innings.  He allowed three runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out two.  Kearney’s seniors won the nightcap 10-6.  Cole Wilcox went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI for Columbus.  Wilcox started the game and was charged with four runs, only two of them earned, in three innings.

Cornerstone’s record slipped to 1-3.  The Seniors will host Lexington in a doubleheader tomorrow.  First pitch of the opener set for 1 p.m.

The Junior Blues were pounded 10-1 in last night’s first game at Pawnee Park Field.  But, they rebounded to edge Kearney 6-5 in the nightcap.  Jack Faust got the win and Colby Salak posted the save.

The win snapped a four-game losing skid and upped the Juniors’ record to 2-4.  They’ll entertain South Sioux City next Tuesday in a twinbill.

This evening, the 1-2 Bank of the Valley Lakeview Seniors and the 2-0 Owens Wealth Advisors Lakeview Junior Reds will host Battle Creek.  First pitch at Pawnee Park Field for the Junior Reds game is set for 5:30 p.m., with the Seniors contest to start at 8 o’clock.
