Cornerstone Posts Two Road Wins Over Weekend

The Cornerstone Insurance Group Columbus Seniors were road warriors over the weekend.  Cornerstone won a pitcher’s duel at South Sioux City 3-1 on Saturday, before cruising to an 11-1 victory at Yutan on Sunday.

Ryan Eickhoff tossed a complete game on Saturday.  In seven innings, Eickhoff allowed one run on five hits and had six strikeouts.  Grant Anderson collected four hits and Cody Zrust drove in two runs.

On Sunday at Yutan, Columbus pitchers Wyatt Swanson and Trevor Schumacher combined on a five-inning, no-hitter.  Cornerstone erupted for seven runs in the first inning.  Zrust and Nick Zoucha each had two RBI on the day as the Columbus Seniors won their fourth straight to improve to 9-3.

Meanwhile, the One United Federal Credit Union Junior Blues posted a 13-1 win at South Sioux City on Saturday, upping its record to 2-6.  It was a big rebound after they had been swept in Friday’s doubleheader at Creighton Prep, losing 13-1 and 9-0.
