Cornerstone Makes Area Championship, Secures Spot at State

The Cornerstone Insurance Group Columbus Seniors have advanced to the A6 area championship and have secured a spot in a Class A state tournament. 

Cornerstone rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Lincoln North Star 6-4 in Fremont last night.  Connor Rausch and Wyatt Swanson each had two RBI, while Quenton Gustafson drove in a run and scored twice.  Alex Griffith pitched six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits to get the win.  Rausch tossed a perfect inning of relief to record a save. 

Columbus is 3-1 in the tourney and 16-11 overall and is headed to state for the second straight year.  Lincoln North Star will meet Lincoln Northeast in a matchup of 2-1 teams today at 5 p.m.  The winner will face Cornerstone tonight for the area title. 

The area champion advances to the Senior Legion National Division state tournament in Hastings, while the runner-up goes to the American Division state tourney in Bellevue.
