Cornerstone in State Tourney Semifinals Today on KLIR 101
The Cornerstone Insurance Group Columbus Seniors advanced to the semifinals of the Class A state tournament Monday with a 6-3 victory over Hastings.
Cornerstone scored two runs in the top of the first inning and led 4-0 before Hastings rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Columbus tallied two insurance runs in its last at-bat. Preston Hastreiter tossed a seven-inning complete game. Ryan Eickhoff had three hits and two RBI.
After losing in the first round Saturday in Lincoln, Cornerstone has won back-to-back elimination games to improve to 2-1 in the National Division tourney and 22-10 on the year. In today’s semifinals at Den Hartog Field in Lincoln, Columbus will face Millard West at 4 p.m. in a game you can hear on KLIR 101.
The Class A champions this spring, Millard West is also 2-1 in this tourney after dropping a 7-5 decision last night to Creighton Prep, which is 3-0. Prep meets 2-1 Elkhorn South in tonight’s other semifinal at 7 p.m.
