Sam Kwapnioski belted a grand slam in a six-run first inning and the Cornerstone Insurance Group Columbus Seniors posted an 11-3 victory in the championship game of an Omaha tournament yesterday. The Columbus Seniors went 4-0 to capture the title at the Jim “Bongo” Bayly Tournament.

Cornerstone opened the tourney with a 9-1 win over Roncalli on Friday.  Tyler Wessell led Columbus with three hits and three RBI and pitched a five-inning complete game.  Cole Wilcox also went the distance of five frames on Friday evening, holding Creighton Prep 2 to one hit as Columbus won 9-0.

On Saturday, Cornerstone scored in every inning but the seventh in a 7-2 win over Omaha North.  Columbus starter Caleb Van Dyke gave up two first inning runs before blanking North over the final six innings.

Alex Ritzdorf notched Cornerstone’s fourth straight complete game win in Sunday’s championship.

Columbus’ Seniors have won six straight to even their record at 11-11.  They’ll host Kearney in a single, nine-inning game tomorrow starting at 5 p.m.
