Cornerstone Columbus Seniors Go 2-1 On Weekend

The Cornerstone Insurance Group Columbus Seniors split a home doubleheader yesterday to cap a 2-1 weekend. 

Cornerstone downed Waverly 9-3 in Sunday’s opening game at Pawnee Park Field, before dropping the second contest 12-4. 

In the opener, Cornerstone trailed 3-2 going to the bottom of the sixth before the Seniors erupted for seven runs.  Shortstop Cody Zrust went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run.  Cole Wilcox pitched a complete game, allowing just two earned runs over seven innings.  He did not walk a batter, while striking out seven. 

Sunday’s second game was tied at 4-all after four innings before Waverly pulled away for the win. 

Cornerstone won 8-5 in eight innings at Lincoln Southeast on Saturday. 

The Seniors are 5-11.  They’ll host Grand Island U-Save Wednesday evening in a twinbill.
