Cornerstone Canceled Trip to GI as COVID-19 Precaution

The baseball season for the Cornerstone Insurance Group Columbus Seniors was supposed to conclude last night with a road doubleheader against Grand Island Home Federal.  Unfortunately, it ended with a cancellation of the twinbill due to concerns over COVID-19.

Cornerstone head coach Cody Schilling said one of his team’s players was exposed to COVID-19 by a person outside of the team who tested positive for the virus.  Schilling said nobody on the Columbus team has tested positive for the virus at this time, but he felt caution was the best move, so the trip to Grand Island was scrapped.

Since its pandemic-delayed season began on June 18th, Cornerstone had not missed a scheduled game due to the virus until last night.

The Columbus Seniors wound up the season with a record of 11-15.

The Columbus United Federal Credit Union Junior Blues dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Grand Island on Monday to end the year at 10-16.
