Cooper Resigns From Rhule’s Staff, Butler Expected to Be Hired

Nebraska defensive backs coach Evan Cooper resigned Friday for personal reasons.

By Saturday, ESPN reported that former Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills coach John Butler was expected to take Cooper’s place on NU’s coaching staff.  Butler spent the past six seasons as the Bills’ defensive backs coach.  He also spent several years in college football before moving to the NFL with the Texans.

Cooper was under contract at Nebraska through the 2024 season.  The longtime assistant to Matt Rhule was reportedly set to make $670,000 this year.
