The coronavirus pandemic and its effects on Nebraska’s budget has reportedly put construction of the Huskers’ new football facility on hold.

Groundbreaking for the $155 million facility east of Memorial Stadium was slated for next month, but multiple media reports say it won’t happen.

Athletic Director Bill Moos told the Omaha World-Herald he doesn’t know when construction will begin, saying that depends on the pandemic.  The newspaper said the school has eliminated 20 positions within its system and will suffer at least a $50 million shortfall when its fiscal year ends June 30th.
