Both Columbus American Legion baseball teams posted doubleheader sweeps of North Platte last night.
The Cornerstone Insurance Group Columbus Seniors won 8-7 and 7-6 in North Platte.  In the opener, Sawyer Kimberling and Wyatt Swanson each had two hits and two RBI.  Cornerstone’s four-run third inning gave them a 5-0 lead and they held on for the win.
In game two, North Platte led 6-0 after the top of the fourth, but Columbus scored the final seven runs including two in the bottom of the seventh.  Nick Zoucha’s third hit of the contest gave the Seniors a walkoff win. Kaden Brownlow also had three hits, with Brownlow and Kael Forney each driving in two runs.  Cornerstone is now 15-6.
The One United  Federal Credit Union Junior Blues scored 32 runs in their sweep at Pawnee Park Field.  They beat North Platte 19-7 and 13-5.
Quenton Gustafson led the way offensively in the doubleheader with four hits, six RBI and five runs.  Keaton Watchorn and Joel Thomas each added four hits, while Watchorn and Zach Nelson scored five runs apiece.  Seth Brandl got the win in game one, with Will Wickham pitching a complete game in the nightcap.  The Junior Blues improved to 7-16.
Both Columbus teams will host York today at Pawnee Park Field, with the Juniors game set for 5 p.m. and the Seniors contest to follow around 7:30.
Meanwhile, the Bank of the Valley Lakeview Seniors visit Pender tonight at 7 p.m. in their league tournament semifinals.  At the same time, Battle Creek will host South Sioux City in the other semifinal.  The Ralph Bishop League tournament championship and third place game are set for tomorrow in West Point.
