Columbus Seniors Prevail in Marathon Game at Grand Island
It was a late night for the Columbus Cornerstone Seniors Wednesday, but at least it was a happy trip home from Grand Island.
Cornerstone outlasted the home team 11-10 in 12 innings. Grand Island rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 6-all. Neither team scored again until Columbus erupted for five runs in the top of the 12th and then hung on for the win after G.I. tallied four runs in its last at bat.
Keiton Watchorn stroked a pair of doubles, had three RBI and two runs and Grant Zoucha also drove in three runs as the Seniors improved to 12-10. They’ll host Papio South Friday at 7 p.m.
In the OneNebraska Junior Blues game last night, Columbus got by Grand Island 6-5, moving to 10-7 on the season. They’ll play in a tournament at Bellevue West beginning tomorrow.
And the Owens Wealth Advisors Junior Reds were swept by Lincoln Southeast in a home doubleheader. The Junior Reds lost 8-5 and 7-2 in four innings. The Junior Reds have lost five straight games to slip to 10-7. They’ll host Elkhorn South Saturday evening.
