Columbus Seniors Need Win Tonight to Remain in Area Tourney

The Columbus Seniors need a win tonight to stay alive in their area tournament.

Cornerstone Insurance Group is 2-1 so far in the A-6 tourney the Seniors are hosting at Pawnee Park.  After getting rained out Friday, top-seeded Columbus cruised to a 10-0 win over Lincoln High Saturday as Will Wickham tossed a five-inning no-hitter.  But, in their second game Saturday night, Cornerstone was edged by fourth-seeded Norfolk 2-1.

The Seniors kept their hopes for a third straight state tournament trip  alive Sunday night by beating No. 3 seed Lincoln North Star 1-0.  Alex Griffith held North Star to three hits in seven innings as Columbus improved to 18-16 overall.

Cornerstone meets fifth-seeded Fremont, which is 2-0 in the tourney, tonight at 7 p.m.
