The Columbus American Legion baseball teams are still alive in their area tournaments after each club went 2-1 over the weekend.
The Cornerstone Insurance Group Columbus Seniors opened the A6 area tourney with an 8-3 win over host Norfolk on Friday. On Saturday, Cornerstone was blanked by top-seeded Gretna 5-0, but the Columbus Seniors stayed alive yesterday with an 11-3 victory over South Sioux City. Columbus will face Fremont, which is also 2-1, today at 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Columbus United Federal Credit Union Junior Blues beat a pair of Gretna teams by scores of 3-2 and 5-2, before falling to host Fremont 5-1 yesterday. The Junior Blues have a rematch against number-1 seed Gretna, who they defeated 5-2 on Saturday, today at 5 p.m.
