Columbus Seniors, Junior Blues’ Seasons End Monday Night

Both the Columbus Seniors and Juniors were eliminated in their Legion baseball area tournaments Monday night.

Top-seeded Cornerstone Insurance Group fell to the No. 5 seed Fremont Seniors 8-0 in five innings at Pawnee Park.  Columbus went 2-2 in the tournament and finished with an overall record of 18-17.

Fremont improved to 3-0 in the tourney and will meet second-seeded Lincoln Southeast Tuesday for the area title.  Southeast is 2-1 and will need to beat Fremont twice.

Meanwhile, the OneNebraska Federal Credit Union Junior Blues, the No. 1 seed in their area tourney in South Sioux City, saw No. 4 Norfolk rally for a 6-5 victory.  Columbus led 5-0 after four innings, but Norfolk scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the seventh for the walk-off win.  The Junior Blues went 2-2 in the postseason and 16-12 on the year.

Norfolk is 3-0 and would have to lose to No. 2 seed Lincoln Southeast twice Tuesday night to be denied a trip to the Class A Junior state tournament.
