Columbus Football Kicks Off Season Tonight vs. Fremont

The Columbus High football team kicks off its season tonight by hosting rival Fremont.

The Discoverers beat the Tigers in the opener last year before losing their next eight games.

Coach Craig Williams says a strength of Columbus’ offense is the line, with four returning starters.  “Carter Fedde really leads that offensive line,” Williams said. “He’s an all-state caliber player, just a tremendous high school football player and a great leader.  Those guys up front have set the tone in practice.”

Williams said the Discoverers need better production from their quarterbacks.  He noted that the offense will get a boost with the return of receiver Tanner Esch, who suffered a broken hand last year.

On the defense, Williams said CHS needs to develop some depth on the line and needs two or three linebackers to step up to fill the shoes of 2023 graduate Liam Blaser.

Tonight’s game at Pawnee Park’s Memorial Stadium has a 7 p.m. kickoff.  You can hear the action on KLIR 101.
