CHS Swimming & Diving, Girls Wrestling Seasons Get Underway Thursday
Columbus High’s swimming and diving teams faced rival Fremont and Standing Bear in a double-dual in Lincoln Thursday.
The Discoverers boys were downed by the Grizzlies 71-60 and bowed to the Tigers 99-36. The CHS girls fell to Standing Bear 100-55 and lost to Fremont 119-40. Columbus coach Terrence Janicek noted his team had relays 10 seconds from state secondary times and divers who showed great improvement.
Meanwhile, in girls wrestling, the Discoverers finished third out of 12 teams competing in Standing Bear’s Grizzly Classic. Gracie Trejo of CHS earned first at 135 pounds. She pinned all four of her opponents to score 28 of the team’s 111 points.
