The Columbus High boys’ basketball team suffered a heart-breaker at home last night.  The Discoverers fell to Crete 61-60 as the Cardinals hit a two-point field goal with two seconds remaining in the second overtime.

With its fourth loss in the last five games, CHS fell to 9-8 on the season.

In the girls’ contest, Crete pulled away for a 45-25 victory, keeping the Cardinals unbeaten at 17-0.  The Discoverers dropped to 5-13.

The Columbus boys visit Omaha Gross Catholic on Friday, before both CHS teams host Norris on Saturday.

All the other area scores last night were in girls’ basketball.  In the East Husker Conference tournament quarterfinals, North Bend Central defeated Clarkson/Leigh 56-38, while Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family was upset by Pender 71-67. 

In the Southern Nebraska Conference tourney, David City topped Heartland 37-28. Boone Central bowed to GACC 59-26 in Mid-State tournament action.

And in a regular season game, Riverside remained winless after a 69-23 loss to Lutheran High Northeast.
