CHS Prep Club Winners Are Blaser, Thompson

Liam Blaser and Ellie Thompson won the KLIR Prep Club Awards for Columbus High in this year’s voting by Prep Club sponsors.  They’ll each receive a $500 college scholarship and a plaque.

Blaser was a standout on both sides of the football.  He finished his career with almost 1,400 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns.  On defense, he had 230 tackles including 117 last season, when he was All-State honorable mention.  In wrestling, Blaser recorded 104 career wins and was a two-time state medal winner.  He’s currently in his third season of track and was a state qualifier in the shot put and discus as a junior last spring.  Selected for this year’s Shrine Bowl, Blaser will play football at Chadron State.

Thompson missed her senior basketball season after knee surgery, but was the Discoverers’ leading scorer and rebounder as a junior, earning All-Conference and All-State Honorable Mention.  In volleyball last season, she ranked second on the team with 272 kills and 46 total blocks.  Thompson is currently a captain and third-year varsity starter for the CHS girls soccer team.  She will attend UNK.
