CHS Girls Win, Boys Fall as HAC Hoops Tourney Opens

The Columbus High girls were winners, while the Discoverers boys fell in yesterday’s first round of the HAC basketball tournament. 

The CHS girls posted a 54-50 overtime win at Lincoln Southeast.  Carly Gaedeke led Columbus with 16 points.  Two of Ellie Thompson’s 15 points came on free throws with 0.1 seconds left in regulation.  The Discoverers have won three of their past four games to improve to 3-4.  They’ll play at top-seeded and 6-0 Lincoln Southwest in today’s quarterfinals at 2 p.m. 

Meanwhile, the CHS boys were downed at Lincoln North Star 67-53.  Sam Kwapnioski led Columbus with 17 points and Ean Luebbe had 16.  The Discoverers will play a consolation game at Norfolk tomorrow at 2 p.m. in a matchup of teams with 1-6 records.
