CHS Girls Challenge Pius, But Fall in District Semifinal
Columbus High gave the seventh-ranked girls basketball team in the state all it could handle last night.
The Discoverers fell at Lincoln Pius X 31-28 in the A-6 district semifinals. Columbus led the low-scoring affair 11-9 at halftime, but the Thunderbolts outscored the Discoverers 8-0 in the third quarter and held on in the final period to win.
Molly Goc of CHS scored a game-high 11 points, eight of those coming in the fourth quarter. Columbus finished the season with an 8-16 record.
Pius improved to 18-5 and advanced to tomorrow’s district final. That district’s other semi-final between Fremont and Lincoln North Star was postponed until tonight by inclement weather.
