As the Nebraska football team prepares for its home opener against Wisconsin on Saturday, Badgers coach Paul Chryst isn’t discussing quarterback Graham Mertz’s status.

Media reports said the redshirt freshman tested positive for COVID-19 and would be undergoing a second test to determine if the first result was a false positive.  If the second test confirms the first result, Mertz can’t play again for at least 21 days.   Chryst said he is confident the ninth-ranked Badgers’ game against the Huskers will go on as scheduled.

Nebraska coach Scott Frost was asked about the situation yesterday.  “I hope just for his health that he’s okay,” Frost said. “We’ve had false positives here too, so my guess is that’s what it is.”

Saturday’s kickoff at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln is at 2:30 p.m.  The pre-game show starts at 9:30 a.m. on News Talk 900 KJSK and will be joined at 2 p.m. on 93.5 The Hawk.
