Central Community College has decreased its overall greenhouse gas emissions by over 39%.

CCC’s initial greenhouse gas inventory was completed in 2013. It gave the college a baseline of 31,613 metric tons of CO2 equivalents resulting from commuting and utilities. That number has now dropped to 19,204 metric tons of CO2. Officials say CCC has doubled their reduction in emissions including 27% in natural gas, 42% in purchased electricity, and 40% in commuting.

Officials say the Columbus Campus itself has changed out 60 old halide fixtures in the gym with new dimmable/programmable LED lighting; installed two high efficiency hot water boilers in the North Education Center; and replaced all the windows and doors in the Fine Arts Center, going from original steel frames and single-pane glass to their higher efficiency counterparts.
