Central City, Polk County Advance to State Softball Tourney

The state softball tournament opens Wednesday in Hastings.  Lakeview and Aquinas came up short of making it, while Central City and Polk County advanced with district final wins over the weekend. 

Lakeview was downed in two games in a Class B district final at Elkhorn last Friday.  The Vikings fell by scores of 2-0 and 11-1 to finish with a 21-9 record.  In Class C, Aquinas won Saturday’s first game at Milford 7-4, but lost the next two games 5-3 and 3-0.  The Monarchs ended at 21-10. 

Central City beat Ponca 10-0 and 9-0 and will take a 24-3 mark into state.  Polk County won its district final at Gothenburg in two games by scores of 7-3 and 8-1 and is 25-10. 

In Wednesday’s opening round at state, Central City meets Malcolm and Polk County plays Yutan/Mead.  Both games start at 11:30 a.m.
