Caron, Walsh Lead Huskers to Win Over Indiana

Josh Caron homered twice and drove in all four of Nebraska’s runs and Will Walsh tossed a complete game as the Huskers defeated Indiana 4-2 in the Big Ten baseball tournament.

The second-seeded Huskers and No. 3 seed Hoosiers will meet again today at 5 p.m. with a berth in Sunday’s championship game going to the winner.

Caron hit a three-run shot in the top of the third inning to erase the Hoosiers’ 1-0 lead.  The NU catcher launched his second home run deep into the left field bleachers at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha in the eighth inning to account for the final score.  It marked Caron’s fourth long ball of the tourney and 14th of the season.

Walsh allowed two runs while scattering six hits and allowing one walk while recording five strikeouts.  It marked the southpaw’s second career complete-game gem.  His first was a shutout against Michigan State in last year’s conference tourney.

The pregame show for today’s rematch to decide the Bracket One winner is set for 4:30 p.m. on News Talk 900 KJSK.
