Bulldogs Rally Late, Longhorns Stay Alive at CWS

After being no-hit for seven innings, Mississippi State erupted for six runs in the eighth inning to stun Virginia 6-5 at the College World Series last night.

Kellum Clark and Logan Tanner both homered during the rally, as the Bulldogs improved to 2-0 and earned two days off.  The Cavaliers, whose starter Griff McGarry was trying for the first CWS no-hitter since 1960, are now 1-1.  They’ll meet Texas tomorrow night in an elimination game.

The Longhorns moved to 1-1 in the series yesterday with an 8-4 win over Tennessee.  As Tennessee icon Peyton Manning watched from the stands, the Volunteers went two-and-out in their first trip to Omaha since 2005.

Coming up tonight: Vanderbilt faces Stanford in an elimination game.  It’s a 6 p.m. first pitch.
