Bulldogs Fall to S-E-M in D2 Boys State Hoops Opener

Osceola joined area teams Howells-Dodge and Central City in losing their opening game at the boys state basketball tournament. 

The Bulldogs were downed by Sumner-Eddyville-Miller 62-54 in the D2 quarterfinals today at Pinnacle Bank Arena.  Trailing at the half 25-20, Osceola went on a 16-5 run to take a 36-30 lead.  But the Mustangs responded by scoring 16 of the game’s next 17 points to pull ahead 46-37.  

The Bulldogs rallied to trail 53-51 with about two minutes left.  However, S-E-M went 17-of-24 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the win. 

Osceola senior Isaiah Zelasney scored a game-high 25 points, while Bulldogs junior Kale Gustafson had 20 in the loss.   Osceola was making its third straight trip to state and hoping to make the semifinals for the second year in a row, but its season ended with a 23-4 record.
