Bolt’s Huskers Heading to Stillwater Regional, Face Florida Friday
Nebraska baseball coach Will Bolt said yesterday the Huskers are excited for the challenge of heading to this week’s NCAA Regional in Stillwater.
NU is the No. 2 seed and will play third-seeded Florida, the runner-up in last year’s College World Series, on Friday. Nebraska won its first Big Ten title, wrapping up a five-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory over Penn State on Sunday. Bolt said Monday that, in retrospect, having to win five straight games after losing the opener was probably the best possible scenario for his club.
“Having to start so many different pitchers in that tournament, and having them all throw so well, they’re all taking with them that confidence and that experience and that postseason feel,” Bolt said. “With the extra games we had some guys offensively that got really hot that feel really confident and we feel really confident as a team.”
Regional host Oklahoma State will play fourth-seeded Niagara on Friday. The Cowboys are the No. 11 overall seed in the 64-team NCAA tournament.
Friday’s game between the Huskers and Gators is set for a 2 p.m. first pitch. It will be aired on News Talk 900 KJSK.
