Bison Doomed by Eight Turnovers in Title Game Loss to Wahoo

Central City committed eight turnovers, including seven interceptions, in a 47-7 loss to Wahoo in Tuesday’s Class C1 state football championship.

The Warriors scored their first touchdown on a 33-yard return of a fumbled lateral in the second quarter.  Wahoo scored on a quick, 66-yard drive with less than a minute left in the first half to lead 14-0 at intermission.

Central City quarterback Parker Zikmund, who tossed all seven interceptions, connected with tight end Turner Hanke on an 87-yard catch-and-run to pull the Bison within 13 points at 20-7 early in the second half.  But, on Wahoo’s next possession, facing a third-and-16, Warriors QB Jace Kaminski threw a 48-yard TD strike to Kaden Christen to make it 26-7.

Wahoo pulled away to finish 13-0 and win its second state championship, and first since 2019.  CC, playing in its first state title game, had a ten-game win streak snapped and wound up with an 11-2 record.
