Allison Weidner’s St. Francis Jersey to be Retired Tonight

She wears number 3 on the Nebraska women’s basketball team, but Allison Weidner’s number 2 jersey will be retired by Humphrey St. Francis tonight.  The honor is scheduled to take place at halftime of the Flyers home game against Summerland.

Now in her sophomore season at NU, Weidner has been a big part of the Huskers going 8-3.  Nebraska has won three straight, with lopsided victories over Maryland, Wisconsin and Samford.

Coach Amy Williams made her weekly appearance on Wednesday’s Sports Nightly aired on News Talk 900 KJSK and talked about Weidner.  “What I think she’s really worked on is just her conditioning,” Williams said.  “Being able to keep things hooked up on the defensive end the way that she’s had to, I think that really showed in the second half of that Samford game.  She sparked us and to do that on defense for an entire game and still maintain that explosiveness to the basket and creating shots for other people is pretty tough to do.”

Weidner and her Husker teammates will take on Wyoming on Sunday.  Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Pinnacle Bank Arena, where Nebraska is 5-0 this season.
