Ternus’ State Title Highlights State Wrestling Meet

Lakeview High wrestler Landon Ternus won a state championship and capped a perfect season on Saturday.
The Vikings senior pinned his first three opponents in the Class B state meet, before winning a major decision 16-5 in the final. Ternus went 45-0 this season and became just the third state champ in Lakeview history, the first since 1995. He won a bronze medal last year.
Columbus High’s Caydn Kucera reached the Class A state final, but the Discoverers senior dropped a 7-4 decision. Kucera earned the third medal of his career with his highest finish.
Central City junior Tristan Burbach won a gold medal in Class C, completing a 48-0 season in the process. Three area wrestlers won individual titles in Class D. They were Grady Romshek of Aquinas Catholic, his Monarchs teammate Kelby Coufal, and Jestin Bayer of Howells-Dodge, who went 42-0.
In the second-ever girls wrestling meet, Lakeview’s Lacy Lemburg finished fifth after winning bronze in 2022. Boone Central’s Leynn Luna had the top finish among 15 local and area girls this year, placing third.
In team standings, Columbus High took fourth in Class A, Lakeview was 11th in Class B, Aquinas won the Class D title a year after earning it in Class C, Boone Central had this year’s best finish in Class C among area teams at sixth, and the Cardinals girls were tops in the area by placing 14th.
