Scotus’ VunCannon, Lakeview Golf Team Start Strong at State

Bryce VunCannon of Scotus shot a 75 in yesterday’s opening round of the Class B state golf tournament at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln.  At 3-over-par, he’s in a tie for seventh place heading into today’s final round.

Lakeview is tied for third in the Class B team standings at 317, 17 strokes behind team-leader Aurora.  The Vikings were led by Colten Remm and Ethan Paben, who each carded a 78 and are tied for 12th.

In the Class A tourney at Norfolk Country Club, it was a tough opening day for two Columbus High golfers.  Mitchell Kuhlman shot a 12-over-par 84 and is tied for 44th, while Cabe DeBower is tied for 60th after a 16-over round of 88.

Trevor Kosch of Humphrey St. Francis, who’s seeking his third state golf title, leads the Class D tourney.  He fired an even-par 72 at Lake Maloney Golf Club and has a four-shot lead heading into today’s action.
