Nebraska’s football team moved up three spots to number 12 Sunday in both the AP and coaches polls.
The Huskers outscored Illinois 21-0 in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 31-16 win to stay unbeaten at 5-0. NU has outscored its opponents 78-6 in the fourth quarter this season.
Coach Mike Riley said some of that may be due to offseason conditioning efforts, but he was also really proud of his team’s mental toughness and ability to make big plays in the fourth quarter.
The Huskers are happy to have a bye this week, as offensive weapons Jordan Westerkamp, Devine Ozigbo and Cethan Carter all left Saturday’s game with injuries.
