Gerry Earns Big Ten Defender of Week Award

Nebraska safety Nate Gerry was named Monday as the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Gerry’s return after an opening game suspension sparked the Blackshirts to force six turnovers in a 52-17 win over Wyoming.  The senior captain had a pair of interceptions, a team-high seven tackles including one tackle for loss, and a pass breakup.

Gerry moved into the top five on NU’s career interceptions list, while also becoming the fifth defensive back in program history with 200 career tackles.

The Huskers return to action Saturday, as they host number 22 Oregon in the 350th consecutive sellout at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.

The game will be nationally televised on ABC.  You can hear the pre-game starting at 9:30 a.m. on News Talk 900 KJSK.  It will be joined at 2 o’clock on KLIR 101.
