A Standoff on the south side of Columbus ends in the apprehension of a 23 year old Columbus man.
Stephen Knott was held up in a house at 754 21st Avenue with a high powered rifle after Columbus Police Department, Platte County Sheriffs Office, and the Nebraska State Patrol had the area of 24th Avenue to 20th Avenue – 8th Street to 6th Street blocked off for the stand off.
Officers searched for Knott early Friday morning following a violent encounter when Knott was reportedly armed with a handgun when he threatened his former girlfriend during the incident shortly before 6 a.m.
The standoff ended around 4 p.m. after Knott voluntarily exited the residence after being contacted by a negotiator. In all the standoff lasted about five hours.
Knott has been transported to the Platte County Detention Facility.
