Neb. officeholders have 1 day to file candidacy



2-14-12, LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Officeholders in Nebraska who want to run for re-election or seek a new elected office this year have one day to file their intent with the Nebraska Secretary of State's office.
    
To appear on the May 15 primary ballot, incumbents have until end of business Wednesday to file. The deadline for non-incumbents is March 1.
    
An incumbent is anyone who holds elective office, including a person who holds one office and wants to file for another office.
    
On the federal level, the May ballot include nominations for a Senate seat and three House seats. The ballot also includes nominations for Legislature, Public Service Commission, state Board of Education, University of Nebraska Board of Regents, community colleges, natural resources districts and large public power districts.
