FREMONT, Neb. (AP) - A Fremont couple have been charged with animal cruelty and neglect.
 
Nine dogs, three cats and a potbellied pig were removed from the Fremont residence in late December. The house later was condemned and demolished.
    
Executive director Clem Rohde, of the Dodge County Humane Society, says several of the dogs had to be euthanized.
    
Rohde says "the house smelled so terrible you just couldn't believe it."
    
Online court records say 56-year-old Daniel Newcomer and his wife, 46-year-old Ellyn Newcomer, each were charged with two counts of felony animal cruelty and neglect and 11 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty and neglect.
    
A jail spokesman said both remained in custody on Monday, pending $25,000 bail each. Online court records don't list their attorneys.
