Nebraska Legislature cancels some Friday hearings

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Legislature has cancelled hearings because a severe winter storm is expected to blow across the state beginning Friday and running through Sunday.

All committee hearings scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday will be moved to February 13th at 9:30 a.m.

Lawmakers will end their Friday floor session at 11 a.m. to let senators get a head start on their drives back home.

Speaker Mike Flood announced the changes Thursday morning.

Blizzard and winter storm watch areas covered most of Nebraska on Thursday morning, with snow amounts expected to be between 6 and 12 inches in some areas.

Flood says the short day will give lawmakers a chance to get home for what looks like a tough weekend of winter weather.
