LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Students in Nebraska schools would not be able to drop out until they turn 18, under a bill set for a legislative hearing.
    
Lexington Senator John Wightman has introduced a measure (LB996) that would require school attendance for students until they graduate, turn 18, or complete a private education program.
 
Wightman will present his measure Monday to the Legislature's Education Committee.
    
The bill repeals an exception in state law that allows children who have reached the age of 16 to drop out of school with written consent from a parent or guardian.
