Nebraska interstate crash fatally injures officer

1-26-12, WACO, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a Lincoln police detective has been fatally injured in a crash while heading to work.

York County Sheriff Dale Radcliff says 37-year-old Tony Howe was pronounced dead Wednesday night at York General Hospital. The accident occurred shortly after 8pm.

Howe was eastbound about a mile and a half from the Waco interchange when his car drifted into the median. The car hit a culvert, went airborne and rolled.

Howe lived in York and had worked as a York County deputy and city of York officer before joining the force in Lincoln more than eight years ago.
