1-18-12, LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Discussion is set to open in the Nebraska Legislature on a bill that would prohibit minors from lying about their age when working with police during alcohol compliance checks.Lawmakers are scheduled to debate the measure Wednesday morning.
Police often use minors to test whether Nebraska businesses are illegally selling alcohol to people under age 21.
Under the bill, minors would have to admit their age if asked by a bartender or clerk.
Supporters of the measure say it's unfair to business owners if minors are allowed to lie in an attempt to buy alcohol as part of a police operation.
Opponents say the change is not necessary. And, they say if the bill is passed it would hurt efforts to keep alcohol away from teenagers.
