Neb. education accountability bill set for hearing

1-16-12, LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A bill that would require the Nebraska Board of Education to create an accountability system for individual public schools is set for a legislative hearing.

The Legislature's Education Committee will convene Tuesday to hear testimony on the measure (LB870) by York Sen. Greg Adams.

The proposal would require the state board to measure graduation rates, student performance on statewide tests and other indicators. The State Department of Education would be required to report individual school performance annually.
