1-6-12, LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Concealing a dead body from authorities in Nebraska could lead to a 20-year prison sentence under a new bill backed by Attorney General Jon Bruning.
Bruning unveiled the measure Thursday as part of his legislative package for the session. The bill by Lincoln Sen. Tony Fulton would enhance the penalty for hiding a body from a misdemeanor to a felony.
A second measure by Ogallala Sen. Ken Schilz would elevate penalties for the possession of so-called bath salts, placing the crime at the same status level as methamphetamine possession.
Bellevue Sen. Abbie Cornett introduced a bill that would make negligent child abuse a felony if the child dies or is seriously injured. Omaha Sen. Scott Lautenbaugh is sponsoring a bill to limit prison inmates' lawsuits unless they face imminent danger.
