One celebration held each year in honor of our Ag Producers is the Rural Recognition Banquet, which is March 19, during National Ag Week. The Banquet will be held at Ag Park, Columbus. It is sponsored by the Agri-Business Committee of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. The social time starts at 6:00 p.m., with the dinner scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The Chamber Agribusiness Committee will honor annual award-winners chosen by the committee: Jim Pillen/Pillen Family Farms, of Columbus and Platte Center, will be named Agribusiness Pioneer; Wayne Loseke, of Columbus, is Outstanding Senior Farmer; Robyn Graham, Vocational Agriculture Instructor at Humphrey, Outstanding Woman In Agriculture; and Jon Eller, of Shelby, is named Outstanding Area Farmer.
Featured speaker is Dr. Tom Field, director of UNL’s Engler Center for Agribusiness Entrepreneurship. Tom is a passionate advocate for agriculture, free enterprise, engaged citizenship, and the potential of young people. He is also a partner in Field Land and Cattle Company, LLC in western Colorado. He is also a noted author with works including his column “Out of the Box” and featured commentator of “The Entrepreneurial Minute” on the Angus Report on RFD-TV. A frequent speaker at agricultural events in the U.S. and abroad, he has consulted with a number of agricultural enterprises and organizations, and has served on numerous boards related to education, agriculture, and athletics
The Platte County 4-H Council also presents awards during the program. 4-H Leader Years of Service, Friends of 4-H, and the 4-H Meritorious adult winners are recognized as well as the Diamond Clover Awards which will be presented to deserving 4-H members.
The Annual Rural Recognition Banquet is a special event, a true celebration of Agriculture in our area. I hope you will make plans to attend.
