One Person Killed In Seward County Accident

Seward, NE~~A crash involving three semis on Interstate 80 in Seward County on Thursday night killed one person and seriously injured another. 

The Nebraska State Patrol says the crash happened just before 5:00 p.m on eastbound I-80 just west of the Seward exit, when two semis stopped in a work zone were rear-ended by a third semi which failed to stop.

The driver of the third semi, 28-year-old Marcus, R. Lathon of Chesapeake, Virginia, was killed in the crash. A passenger in the third semi, 34-year-old Kwasi Obeng-Benne was flown by medical helicopter to Bryan West in Lincoln with serious injuries. The driver of the second semi, was treated and released at the Seward Hospital, while the driver of the first semi was not injured.

The crash which closed a portion of eastbound I-80 near the Seward exit for more than three hours remains under investigation.

The Nebraska State Patrol was assisted by law enforcement and emergency crews from Seward County.
